Amanda Hrabik

Greeting’s ya’ll! My name is Amanda Hrabik and I am the Guest Relations Manager here at The Ridge Tahoe. I was feeling adventurous last year and decided to move out to Tahoe all the way from the east coast out of Westminster, Maryland. I was first hired as the supervisor at the spa and recreation department and moved up to the position I am currently in as the Guest Relations Manager. Everyone has been so welcoming in showing me the ropes including many of the staff and the local owners. My position is a blend of many different tasks and duties, with my main responsibility to help and assist the guests and owners. In the short time I have been here I have learned so much about guests services and the hospitality industry.

Not only do I enjoy helping guest at the resort but I also enjoy helping people in and around the community.  I decided to join and lead The Ridge Eagles here at work and they have been keeping me very busy ever since. The Ridge Eagles is an organization that was established over twenty years ago by Ridge Tahoe employees. The group consists of associates and volunteers whom coordinate events and fundraisers to raise money and donate to local charities and nonprofit organizations in the local area of Douglas County. The name EAGLES actually stands for: Empowered, Associates, Generating, Leadership, Experience and Service. Our next upcoming event is a Summer Family Picnic on Wednesday, July 25th. We will be having food, games, sack races, hula-hoop contests, raffles, face painting and much more. It will be a fun event for the whole family to enjoy!

For more information about The Ridge Eagles or if you are interested in making a donation, contact me at The Ridge Tahoe 775-588-3553.

Dan Garrison

Dear Ridge Resort Followers:

My name is Dan Garrison, Senior Vice President & General Manager.  I want to first say thank you for your interest in the Ridge Resorts and for taking the time to visit our website & this blog.  In this new world of social media we are finding ourselves behind the curve but, we are convinced it is an important arena to be in and certainly the new & popular way for businesses and their customers to share information.

Having grown up, career wise, here at the Ridge starting in 1982 I truly have almost a tainted view of our resort.  This has been a 30 year adventure in which I wouldn’t trade away for anything.  Starting out in the Transportation department shuttling guests to and from the property and growing from there to my current position I can tell you, however bias, the Ridge Resorts is a special place and more importantly, our people are simply outstanding.  Of the 200 plus associates on our team, over 50 of them have been with us for 10 years or longer, many of these have been with us 20 plus years.  Watching them and their families grow over the years has been and continues to be one of the single most pleasurable part of the job.  While all operations have their moments, what I think makes us highly rated and special is our people who, on the rare occasion, miss the guest expectation and always make things right. Each associate is empowered to do the right thing.   We all work together toward a common goal and that is to provide an excellent vacation that meets or exceeds the guest’s vacation experience.  We operate with a cruise ship mentality which is to say we strive to provide our owners and guests with a full complement of recreational activities for all ages.  From social activities such as our weekly cooking demonstrations, to rock climbing (not wall climbing, although that’s coming soon) but real rock climbing for all age groups, to guided nature hikes, kids club activities, arts and crafts, morning aerobics and stretch classes, billiards, on-site movie theater, basketball, in/outdoor tennis courts, swimming, relaxing in one of 14 hot tubs in the winter while snowflakes fall gently to the surface to organized activities, guided snow shoe hikes in the winter or our skier express lift right on-site providing easy access to and from one of the largest ski resorts in North America, Heavenly Valley Ski Resort.   These are just a few examples of the things we provide and at no additional cost to the guest.  Our property and our services are simply un-matched; together we create a value that goes above the crowd.  Our spacious units provide for a home away from home and we have something for everyone.  Our full two bed and two bath units offer a full kitchen facility with everything you’d expect at your own home!  All this nestled high atop the ridge in the heart of the great Sierra Nevada’s!  Perched some 4,500 feet above the valley floor, we truly are on top of the world.  Complementary to all guests is our fresh mountain air, cool summer evenings, our pure water and fresh powder snow in the winter.  It’s these things that make us grateful to call the ridge our home.  We invite you to join us. It will be our pleasure and honor to serve you.

Enough of that, I apologize, I couldn’t help myself.  I hope to see you at the Ridge in the near future. I’m easy to pick out, short, bald and always pleased to see our guests around the property, talk with you, get your feedback, which is always welcomed and always considered a true gift.

Over the past 30 years we have enjoyed serving our owners & guests and we look forward to the next 30 years.  I am proud to be a part of this outstanding team and the level of confidence I have in our product is simply without end.

I can be reached anytime via email at dgarrison@rwgroup.biz or via telephone (does anyone use these anymore?) at 775-588-3553 ext. 4000.  If I can be of personal service to you, please feel free to call upon me.  You have my promise to do all that I can to make your next vacation one full of wonderful memories that last a lifetime.

Ann Thomsen

Hello my name is Ann Thomsen.  I am the Reservations Manager here at the Ridge Resorts.  I have been with the Resort for just over four years.  I love my job as it gives me the opportunity to meet interesting people from all over the world.  Everyone is so friendly, staff and guests alike it’s like one big happy family.

I’ll never forget the first time I saw Lake Tahoe, I thought it was so beautiful, the sun glistening off of the deep blue water surrounded by trees it was and still is an amazing site.  Summer is my favorite time of year in Lake Tahoe there are so many activities to enjoy especially here at the resort.  For example; guests can swim, rock climb, play tennis or racquet ball, watch a movie in our onsite movie theatre or enjoy a relaxing massage in our full service Elevation Spa.

The Reservations Department is located in the Ridge Tahoe’s main complex in building 11.  The Reservations Department is responsible for a wide range of duties including assisting all of our Owners, Members and rental guests with all of their reservation needs.  The Reservations Department is open for phone calls from 8am – 6pm Monday – Saturday.

Marlena Bolt

Hello, and greetings from Lake Tahoe! My name is Marlena Boldt, the Director of Resort Sales. I have the pleasure of overseeing our meetings and events department and I am involved in the sales and marketing of our hotel accommodations to travelers around the world. As far as The Ridge is concerned, I’m a baby; I have only been here for a year and a half. However, I am excited to be part of this new family that works so hard to create memorable experiences for our guests.

I’d like to take a minute to blog about all the wonderful families and joyful memories that are created here at The Ridge. As I walk around this beautiful resort every day, I see generations of families making new memories… I see couples holding hands as they walk to play tennis. I see them packing up their cars with coolers and games as the head to the beach. I see parents taking their children out on the Skier Express to try skiing for the very first time and then come back to make snowmen and drink hot chocolate.

But the part that moves me the most is watching all of the brides and grooms who start their lives together here at The Ridge Tahoe. We have over 50 weddings a year in our Garden Terrace. I watch as bright eyed, newly engaged couples come out and visit us for the first time with all their hopes and dreams ahead of them looking for that perfect venue. These couples turn to The Ridge to make their dreams come true. Our staff handles every detail from our great cuisine, to flowers and decorations. We even offer wedding planning service so that every detail is attended to and the couple can focus on sharing their special day with each other, their families, and friends.

I see proud father arrive at their son/daughter’s wedding with smiles on their faces and tears behind their eyes. I see beautifully dressed mothers holding their husband’s hands as they slightly tremble with joy. I see grandparents, sisters, brothers, and best friends light up as the beautiful bride steps into sight for the very first time. I think my favorite person to watch at any wedding is the groom, he looks like his knees are about to buckle when he sees his bride turn the corner and one little tear sneaks out. It is so beautiful to watch all these of warm memories get created each and every day and join two people and two families into one.

If you know anyone who is looking to create an amazing wedding memory and might consider The Ridge, please contact me at mboldt@ridge-resorts.com or 775-588-3553 ext. 4622.

Sam Slack

My name is Sam Slack and I am the Vice President and Director of Operations for the Ridge Resorts.  I joined the team in 1988 as the Assistant Resort Manager responsible for a number of the departments that ensure that our owners and guests have a wonderful vacation experience.  I left the “Ridge” in 1995 to run a resort operation in Northern Arizona.  While I was gone I stayed in touch with senior members of the team and jumped at the chance to return to beautiful Lake Tahoe and the Ridge Resorts in 2002.

As you have read in previous posts this is a great place to work.  The culture of caring for our customers and our staff goes back to the early days of the Resort and continues stronger than ever today.  I spend a good portion of my week walking the property from the main road and recreation facilities to the garages and store rooms as well as the guest rooms.  This allows me to see many of our associates on a weekly basis and to interact with so many of our owners and guests.  I have to admit that it is very rewarding and humbling to see how the team truly cares about the guest experience.

I also have the good fortune to be very much involved in the long-term refurbishment plan for the Resorts.  Since 2003 we have completed significant work in each of the guest rooms.  Given the size of the properties each individual guest room building is on a separate cycle and we are very excited about the work to be completed in the next five years.  The work includes the scheduled replacement of furnishings and the complete tear out and replacement of 352 kitchens and 662 bath rooms.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know some of us who are fortunate enough to call beautiful Lake Tahoe and the Carson Valley our home.  I hope you consider us for your future vacations, and look forward to seeing you as I am out and about this beautiful property.

Heather McCoy

My name is Heather McCoy and I am the Senior Assistant Resort Manger here at The Ridge Tahoe Resorts. I first joined the team back in 2003 with our Financial Service Department.  In March of 2005 I took over as the Night Operations Manager overseeing the operations of the Resort during nights and weekends. After just one year in that position I moved on up to the Director of the Spa and Recreation Department. There I spent three years getting to know many of the owners and guests who enjoyed coming to the spa and experiencing many of the activities the Resort has to offer. In February 2008 I was promoted to the Assistant Resort Manager and shortly after, the Senior Assistant Resort Manger where I sit today. As part of my position I directly oversee the Front Desk, Reservations and Spa/Recreation Departments.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of my position would be the opportunities I get to interact with our guests and owners and really get to know them and their families.  I truly feel like I know this Resort inside and out, since I have had the opportunity to work in many of the departments, and the pleasure of working with the incredible staff.   I look forward to seeing many of you on your next stay here with us and be sure to stop in and say hello!

Dan Garrison – General Manager

The resort team is working hard to prepare for the up-coming holidays and winter season. In fact, the snow is falling as I type this message to you right now!  30 years later and I am still awe struck by the beauty we call Lake Tahoe and the Sierra.

Believe it or not (where have I heard that before…) we are pulling out the Christmas decorations and yes, in a few weeks we will hold our annual Christmas Decoration Day where the management staff, under the good direction of an Engineer, spend the day turning the Ridge Club and the resort properties into a Holiday Winter Wonderland. The holidays are truly a special time to spend here in the High Sierra.  There is just something about the light of a fireplace, favorite beverage, cozy chair with a throw blanket over your lap and a good book. Of course it’s hard to focus when the sights outside the window are so breathtaking.

Join us at the Resort and enjoy special rates during a special time of the year.

For local businesses, be sure to consider us for your company Christmas party, we have some dates still available and it is affordable. Treat your staff or friends and family to a Christmas Celebration at the top. Engineers put the final touches on our Skier Express so that when Heavenly opens on Wednesday we will be ready!  Sitting at 7,500 feet, they are also placing snow steaks along the road! Resorts Sports is busy tuning up all their ski’s and boards preparing for the season ahead. Bring on the snow!

All our staff received their annual Christmas Party invite and order forms today so we can purchase Christmas Presents for their children.  This event each year ranks number one for our team.  An afternoon of Christmas Presents, pictures with Santa, full Christmas Buffet, live Christmas Music and awesome company.

The Ridge Tahoe has a new head tennis professional. Adam Matzkin, 46, is a highly accomplished multiple sport athlete with a primary emphasis on tennis.

The Ridge Tahoe is pleased to welcome our new tennis pro, Adam.

The Ridge Tahoe is pleased to welcome our new tennis pro, Adam Matzkin.

He joins The Ridge Tahoe team with quite the background as a student and teacher of the game. Adam has been playing since the age of three where he got his start at Green Valley Country Club in Fairfield, Calif. under the schooling of Master Level tennis professional, Jeff Cook.

Adam also played at The Episcopal Academy, one of the oldest and most prestigious prep schools in the United States. He participated in the Gold Cup tennis program.

Later, he went on to be taught by Pancho Segura at La Costa in Carlsbad, Calif., before playing tennis at The University Of Colorado. Adam has competed in tournaments in the U.S., Italy, France, Mexico and the Virgin Islands.

Adam employs the teaching methods of “The Quiet Eye,” a sports physiology method first developed by Dr. Joan Vickers of the University of Calgary. This method has been shown to improve hand-eye coordination at an exponential level.

Either through free clinics for guests at The Ridge Tahoe or during a private lesson, Adam will help you take your tennis game to the next level. Free clinics are held Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for all ages and levels. He advises Ridge guests to call ahead for the clinics, (775) 588-3553 ext. 6000, because they typically fill up. Adam is also available for private lessons that range from $45 to $60 an hour.

Speaking of the next level, Adam speaks highly of The Ridge Tahoe tennis facilities, noting The Ridge has the only indoor court in the entire Lake Tahoe basin, making it perfect for those winter guests looking to brush up on their game in between ski runs at nearby Heavenly Mountain Resort. The Ridge also has two outdoor courts for year-round tennis enjoyment.

Summer or winter it is an all-inclusive resort. Once you are at The Ridge, you don’t have to go anywhere else,” he said. “In winter you can ski in the morning and play tennis in the bubble, then go for a swim and hit the hot tub. It’s a trifecta in one day.”

In 2015 Adam hopes to launch the inaugural Top of Tahoe mixed doubles tournament. If you’re a Ridge Tahoe guest, stop by the clubhouse or give him a call at (775) 588-3553 ext. 6000.

The wait is over and a new name for the former Ridge Club Deli has picked, thanks to an online poll this summer.

Names were created by Ridge Tahoe guests, the community and beyond that best describe the restaurant and its fresh, natural and simple food selections. The names were narrowed to three and the public was asked to pick again. Now The Ridge Tahoe proudly presents the Mountain Side Eatery.

What will you put in your Mountain Side Eatery omelet?

What will you put in your Mountain Side Eatery omelet?

“We love it because it says exactly what we are: a place to enjoy delicious, savory, wholesome food atop a high Sierra resort,” said The Ridge Tahoe Executive Chef Stephen J. Moise.

Open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and a lighter dinner, the Mountain Side Eatery offers a casual and innovative menu that you can eat-in or take back to your room.

Breakfast features bacon and eggs, waffles, breakfast sandwiches, and other goodies to help start your day off deliciously and a full-menu of coffee drinks are available throughout the day.

Deli salads and sandwiches can be packed to take on the go as you tour Lake Tahoe or enjoyed in the comfortable dining setting at the Mountain Side Eatery. Lunch menu features traditional sandwiches (think turkey and cranberry) but also includes tasty specials like a Cobb Salad loaded with bacon and blue cheese, or a Shrimp Louis Wrap of beautiful fresh vegetables and plenty of tine shrimp.

Dinners vary daily and include favorites like salmon with wild rice, prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes, fried chicken with roasted vegetables, giant chicken burritos, and other tempting dishes.

Pizzas, burgers and homemade soups are available throughout the day. Fresh baked goods from the pastry chef are the perfect sweet accompaniment to a meal or a delight on their own.

The Mountain Side Eatery also features an omelet bar Saturday and Sunday mornings, a stir fry dinner on select nights, and a taco bar on Saturdays from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m.

You land in Lake Tahoe. Your main objective: get on the mountain for some skiing – and quick! We don’t blame you, as that would be our goal, too! If you’ve never been to the South Shore of Lake Tahoe or if you’ve never stayed at the Ridge Tahoe, you may be wondering just how you can achieve this. Fortunately, we’re familiar with the various ways to access Heavenly Mountain Resort and have detailed these below for your convenience.

Stagecoach Lodge: the closest ski lodge to the Ridge Tahoe. PC: Instagram user apertureistic

To Stagecoach Lodge: Guests of the Ridge Tahoe have the ultimate convenience when it comes to riding Heavenly Mountain, which is located next to the resort on the South Shore of the lake. Only Ridge guests have access to the Hilltrac Skier Express, an 8-person passenger car that transports guests to the Stagecoach Lodge at Heavenly.

A recently completed $120,000 overhaul to the Skier Express includes a complete rework of the electronics and computer systems that drive the passenger car. Also new this year is an updated charging system, which powers the unit. The driving mechanism and the 680-foot track to Stagecoach were also updated for a smoother, more comfortable ride. It’s the best way to ski in and ski out when staying at the Ridge!

Additionally, on property Ridge Shuttles can drop off at Stagecoach Lodge (after going around the loop).

The newly updated Hilltrac Skier Express is the best way to ski in and ski out at the Ridge Tahoe. PC: Aldrey Torres

To Boulder Lodge: For those that want to explore more terrain within Heavenly Mountain, guests can take the Skier Express or Ridge Shuttle to Stagecoach Lodge then transfer to the Boulder shuttle.

To Heavenly Village: If you’d like a classic gondola experience, take the BlueGo bus that travels every hour on the hour from the Ridge Tahoe to the Casino Corridor and Heavenly Village, the home of the Heavenly Gondola. This gondola affords breathtaking views of the lake as it travels to the top of Heavenly

Another option to get to the Heavenly Village is to take the above transportation to Stagecoach Lodge then transfer to the Village shuttle.

Heaven awaits you at Heavenly Mountain Resort. PC: Heavenly Mountain Resort

To California Lodge: Venture outside of Nevada and experience California by traveling to the California Lodge. Guests may take the BlueGo bus to the Heavenly Village, then transfer at the Village Transport station to the California Lodge.

Regardless of which Lodge you prefer during your ski-venture, make your home base the Ridge Tahoe. With easy access to the mountain, how could you not?
